Diamond and CBN grinding wheels for CNC tool grinding

The round-tool and cutter manufacturing industry has been central to our business. We provide our customers with a range of resin bond, polyimide, hybrid, metal bond, electroplated bond types diamond and CBN grinding wheels, helping our customers manufacture drill bits, reamers, hobs, broaches, end mills and many other products.

Diamond and CBN grinding wheels are a popular choice for grinding end mills because they are extremely hard and durable, and can easily remove the tough carbide material. Here are some things to keep in mind when using diamond and CBN grinding wheels for end mills:

A. Use the correct diamond and CBN grinding wheel: The type of diamond and CBN  grinding wheel you use will depend on the type of carbide/high speed-steel material you are grinding, as well as the shape and size of the end mill. Make sure to use a diamond grinding wheel that is specifically designed for carbide grinding. CBN grinding wheels for high speed-steel workpieces

B. Choose the right grit: The grit size of the diamond and CBN grinding wheels will determine the surface finish of the ground end mill. A finer grit size will produce a smoother finish, while a coarser grit size will remove material more quickly.

C. Use coolant: Carbides can be easily damaged by heat, so it’s important to use coolant while grinding to prevent overheating. Coolant will also help to flush away the grinding debris and keep the diamond grinding wheel clean.

D. Use the correct grinding technique: It’s important to use the correct grinding technique to ensure that you get a consistent and accurate grind on your end mills. Make sure to use a light touch and avoid applying too much pressure, as this can cause the diamond grinding wheel to wear out quickly.

E. Use proper safety precautions: Grinding can be a dangerous activity, so it’s important to take proper safety precautions. Always wear eye protection and use a dust mask to avoid inhaling grinding dust.

2) In addition to diamond and CBN grinding wheels for CNC tool grinding. CBN is another super hard material that has excellent abrasion resistance, making it ideal for grinding hard metals and alloys.

Similar to diamond grinding wheels, CBN grinding wheels are also made with synthetic grains that are bonded to a matrix. The CBN grains are evenly distributed throughout the matrix, providing consistent and precise grinding. CBN grinding wheels are typically used for grinding high-speed steel tools and alloys that are difficult to grind with conventional abrasives.

When selecting between diamond and CBN grinding wheels for CNC tool grinding, it is important to consider the type of material being ground and the specific requirements of the application. In general, diamond grinding wheels are better suited for grinding carbide and other non-ferrous materials, while CBN grinding wheels are better suited for grinding high-speed steel and other ferrous materials.

Both diamond and CBN grinding wheels for CNC tool grinding require proper maintenance and dressing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Proper dressing of the grinding wheel is essential for maintaining the sharpness of the abrasive grains and preventing build up of material on the wheel surface. Additionally, maintaining the correct grinding parameters, such as the speed and feed rate, is critical for achieving efficient and effective grinding.
