Resin bond super abrasive refers to a type of grinding tool made from synthetic diamond or cubic boron nitride (CBN) grains that are bonded together using a resin matrix.

Hongcheng’s resin bond diamond and CBN grinding wheels are ideal for grinding tungsten carbide, hardened steel, high-speed steel, optical, gemstone, ceramic, and other materials Resin bond super abrasives offer several advantages over traditional abrasive tools, including longer tool life, improved surface finish, and reduced downtime due to the need for fewer tool changes.

Resin Bond diamond and CBN grinding wheels are made of either phenolic or polyimide resins. Pressure and heat are utilized to bond the resin to our grinding wheel cores.

The resin bond provides a strong and durable bond between the abrasive grains and the tool body, allowing for high precision and accuracy during grinding. Resin bond super abrasives can be customized to meet specific grinding requirements by varying the abrasive grit size, concentration, and bond hardness.

Phenolic bonded wheels can be utilized in dry or wet applications. Our polyimide bonded wheels are best utilized in water or oil-based coolants for improved form holding, typically required in CNC tool and cutter applications. Hongcheng produces wheel sizes from 1in. (25mm) to 40 inches (100mm) and grit sizes from 40#  to 15000# are available.

However, one drawback of resin bond super abrasives is that they can be more susceptible to heat buildup and glazing than metal or electroplated bond super abrasives. This can cause the tool to lose its cutting efficiency and require more frequent dressing or replacement.
